Washington Campus Coalition’s long history with AmeriCorps, the federal national service program created in 1993, stems from its role as a grantee and host for AmeriCorps programs on college campuses. AmeriCorps places members in service positions to address critical community needs, including education, health, food security, and environmental stewardship.

AmeriCorps places members in service positions to address critical community needs, including education, health, food security, and environmental stewardship.
Program Overview
Engage Washington is an AmeriCorps program that partners with Washington Campus Coalition member campuses to engage students and individuals in service on campuses and in communities. The program aims to recruit and mobilize AmeriCorps members and student volunteers to provide direct support to increase academic success and college and career readiness for low-income, at-risk students in Washington state. Washington Campus Coalition believes that all students should be empowered with the skills and resources to thrive in school and beyond to become the compassionate leaders and engaged citizens of tomorrow. This program is funded by AmeriCorps via Serve Washington.
Engage Washington prioritizes projects in three areas: K-12 Academic Engagement, College/University Student Success, and Mental/Medical Health. Other projects are considered as capacity allows.

K-12 Academic Engagement & College/University Student Success:
Our program aims to empower host sites to address academic engagement and social-emotional learning disparities for students. K-12 support will focus on academic proficiency, social-emotional development, goal setting and careers, and support systems. College/University support will focus on postsecondary enrollment and success. Near-peer mentors will reflect the community of students served and build on their strengths, skills and assets through the development of authentic, caring relationships.

Mental/Medical Health:
Our program aims to partner with host sites to address access to mental and medical health services particularly in rural and low-income communities. Support will focus on increasing access and improving youth mental health through outreach and counseling/coaching. Near-peer mentors will support individuals in accessing the care they need.
Mentoring students has been incredibly important and even life changing. I was blessed with mentors who were transformative in my own life. It was my hope to make a significant difference in mentees’ lives. This goal has been achieved!
